White it is true that tech companies all over the world are scrambling to be part of the realization of The Internet of Things. M2M communication is taking its significant place in this process not just in the US, but countries all over the world such as China, India, Brazil even Poland. The International Data Corporation (IDC), an American market research and analysis firm that specializes information technology, telecommunications and consumer technology market research and reporting, predicted an average of 23.8 percent annual growth for M2M revenue in Poland for the year 2012-2017. According to Michael Wlasenko, an IDC Telecommunications and Networking analyst who wrote the report entitled Poland M2M Market 2013-2017 Forecast and Ecosystem Analysis, the value of M2M market in Poland will increase by 2 to 4 times in the next five years.
He said, "The most effective systems developed since the emergence of the M2M industry during the last decade have helped users to gather and visualize various types of information autonomously and at decreasing cost. Currently, we are observing an important transition in solution architecture; the most successful M2M solutions of the near future will enable users to do more than gather growing volumes of information. Increasingly, advanced analytics components of M2M solutions are becoming necessary, helping users to analyze and synthesize the gathered sensor data into business-critical knowledge."
The report also forecast 2.4 to 2.5 million SIM cards in Poland this year, which is about a 20 percent growth from last year's estimated 2 million SIM cards. It was reported that the number of SIMs used for M2M solutions and applications between 2009 to 2012 had doubled to around 1.5 million, bring it up to close to 2 million in 2013. In 2012, M2M revenue in Poland was $193 million or approximately 10 percent of the market. But with current trends and growing popularity of M2M utilization in car fleet and automated services, the revenue is expected to grow bigger.
Wlasenko further noted in his report that M2M SIM cards have been less equally distributed with Polkomtel being the leader in Poland for years. However, T-Mobile has joined the scene and Orange and T-Mobile has gained quite a noticeable lead in this area. T-Mobile has approximately 25 percent of the shares of M2M SIM cards. These cards are supplied overseas as part of its contract with GPS supplier.
The report provides a holistic look at the evolution of the Polish Machine-to-machine market and showcases ecosystem profiles for vendors such as Polkomtel, Orange, T-Mobile, Integrated Solutions, Gemalto M2M, m2mAir, P4, Comarch, Finder, TMS Poland, and Elproma Elektronika.
